The Grace Jollymore is excited to present the North Shore Slow Pickers!
“The Slow Pickers have been playing together for more than a decade, for the joy of it, once a month or so, with a potluck attached. Oh, the food! Oh, the friends! Oh, the sense of community! (Do you remember when we hugged each other?!) Later, we were asked to play Farmer’s Markets, and a few other places.
“Once the pandemic stopped us all in our tracks, we found ourselves desperate for the deep relief our music brought to each of us. It was medicine for our melancholy, a balm for our isolated souls. From April through Nov. 2020, we gathered weekly in the open air, on Anne and Maggie’s big porch, well-distanced and safe, but together.
“The music kept us sane(ish). It was a lifeline for each of us, in this pandemic. Since November, we’ve met weekly at the West Branch Community Hall, where we can spread out, play, and not freeze, thank goodness. Thanks to our Hall! The Slow Pickers want to share with you the music that gave us joy and hope (and sane-ish-ness) through the pandemic. We hope you have as much fun as we do!”
Admission is by donation. Seats can be reserved by calling (902) 657 3500 (leave a message if there’s no answer!) or by email arts@creamerysquare.ca. The auditorium seating is limited to 70 tickets meaning space is limited!
Half of tonight’s proceeds will go to support SuNNS (Sustainable Northern Nova Scotia), who are defending our watershed from gold mining and toxic waste.
While in the theatre, we thank you for wearing a mask until you are seated with a beverage, keep a happy distance from your fellow guests, and practice effective hand washing! Seating is first come first serve, but with over 180 seats, spacing and view shouldn’t be a problem!
