Workshop: Writing for the Arts with Ray Cronin

  • Grace Jollymore Joyce Arts Centre 31 Creamery Road Tatamagouche, NS, B0K 1V0 Canada (map)

This workshop will be an introduction to arts writing, specifically strategies and approaches to reviewing art exhibitions and profiling individual works of art. Arts writer Ray Cronin will lead participants in honing their critical approach to writing about and reviewing art exhibitions, though a mixture of discussion, hands-on writing, and a Q & A. Topics will include the difference between a critique and an opinion, plain language versus “art-speak,” the importance of description, the structure of a review, tips for pitching to publishers, and the editorial process, among others.

The workshop takes place Saturday, August 13 from 1PM to 4PM at the Grace Arts Centre. The cost is $30. If money is a barrier, email arts@creamerysquare.ca in confidence to access financial support made possible by the Government of Canada.
